Estimated arrival in Singapore: 11:59 pm Thursday, Singapore time, or, 10:59 am Thursday Eastern time.

Last week our house was packed. The movers wrapped all our upholstered furniture in plastic wrap. Now we have a sofa just like our friends in VA. Depending on our mood when we get back from Singapore, we may leave the plastic wrap on! :~)

The week, what little of it that has passed, has been action packed and fun-filled. Greg spent most of the day today trying to determine what limits, if any, there were on the insurance on our storage. Based on a friend's unpleasant experience last year (she was told she was completely covered but when her stuff was ruined by flooding she found out that completely wasn't really completely), Greg wasn't mollified by the claims that our stuff was "completely" covered. It turns out that the moving company determines the value by estimating $3.50 per pound of stuff. Regardless of what was being stored. We had completed a very detailed inventory (what fun that was) of what was being stored and it was clear that $3.50/pound wasn't going to cover things. After much discussion, it now looks like SAS Institute has arranged for a more complete "completely" coverage.

Greg and Veronica's recent less than thrilling experience with a handyman uncovered a little bit of fraud and/or theft; the company has fired the handyman and agreed to repair his repairs at no charge. In spite of being named Greg, he evidently claimed a couple of hundred dollars worth of "supplies" to his firm while telling us it was for "labor" (Veronica had gone to the hardware store and bought EVERYTHING). Live and learn. Greg (the one flying halfway around the world) will now take a friend's advice and try to fix everything himself and call in the professionals only when he's really screwed something up.

Some additional QUESTIONS and ANSWERS:

Is your relocation to Singapore somehow related to the impending April 15th deadline for filing income taxes?

No comment. We will neither confirm nor deny any tax-related problems and categorically object to the phrase "fleeing the country" when it is used to describe our trip.

Is your relocation to Singapore some sort of elaborate April Fool's Day prank?

Not as far as we know. However, if we get to the airport and find Lee Richardson (head of SAS's Asia Operations) there with a smile on his face, we cannot be held accountable for our actions.

Do you know your physical address in Singapore?

Yes, we think we do but want to confirm it before giving it out to people. Don't take it personally.

Well, we have to finish our packing, so that's...that's....that's all folks (for now at least).
